15 Outdoor Adventures You’ve Got To Try This Summer

18 May 2017

With summer finally almost here, many of us are eager to spend more time outdoors enjoying the warmer weather while we can.

There are so many options for activities to do outside, and it’s the perfect time to get adventurous and try something new! Here are our top 15 outdoor adventures to try your hand at this summer.

Outdoor activities

Hot air balloon ride

To see the country like you never have before, float over the countryside in a hot air balloon! Whether you do so with friends, family, or your partner, you’re bound to have an unforgettable experience.

There are launch locations all over the country, and you can even buy vouchers from Virgin Balloon Flights, which would make a great gift.

Zip lining

Another way to experience flying through the air that you should definitely try your hand at is zip lining. This exhilarating activity is fun for all the family, and also makes a great team building day out!

If you’re planning a trip to the Lake District, why not check out the Go Ape Zip Trekking Adventure in Grizedale Forest?

Kayaking

Take to the water this summer and give kayaking a go! Suitable for people of all fitness levels, including children, kayaking is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, and the great thing about it is you can completely tailor the experience to your interests.

Thrill seekers can give whitewater kayaking a go, or those who want a more serene experience can simply enjoy a day trip or kayaking tour.

Rock climbing

If you fancy having a bit of a scramble, why not get really hands on and go climbing this summer? If you’ve never been climbing before, we recommend trying it indoors on a climbing wall first, or even joining a club.

The BMC have some great information on how to get started with climbing on their website here!

Watersports

Mastering waterskiing is a great day out, and whether you try it in the sea, or on a lake, there are plenty of places in the UK to give it a try! If you are staying at one of our Lake District parks, you can give it a try on Lake Windermere, and there is plenty to do in the Windermere area to make for a great day out. For those who want to enjoy the lake but don’t fancy the thrill of waterskiing, our holiday passport gives you great deals on Windermere Lake Cruises too.

Outdoor activities

Zorbing

If you’ve never hurtled down a hill inside an inflatable ball before, you need to try zorbing! Don’t worry, you’ll be strapped in, and you can even do it in pairs. Perhaps one to avoid if you don’t have a strong stomach, but there’s nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of zorbing.

Caving

We think that caving still counts as one of our outdoor adventures, even though it takes place beneath the ground. England has one of the best caving systems in the world, and you can enjoy an adventure underground at many locations across the country.

It is a truly unique and challenging experience, and you can learn how the rock formations, stalactites, and structures were formed over thousands of years.

Hiking

Hiking is always a great and adventurous day out, and is a fantastic choice for exploring somewhere new! While some planning is required, there are plenty of routes you can try out, such as the ten best British hikes from Rough Guides

While it is important to make sure you have the correct equipment, footwear, and clothing, you don’t need to bring much else with you except yourself and a sense of outdoor adventures!

If you are staying at one of our Northern parks, why not enjoy a walk around the Ingleton Waterfalls trail? Or for a more gentle stroll, we recommend the Leighton Moss Nature Reserve. Ask about our holiday passport for deals and other local attractions!

Camping

If you haven’t tried camping yet, what are you waiting for? Whether you prefer to keep as many home comforts as possible and give glamping a shot, or pack light and take off north of the border for some wild camping in Scotland, you should check out our post on things to keep in mind for your first camping trip, as told by seasoned campers! Find the post here.

Mountain biking

If you love riding your bike, why not give mountain biking a go this summer? While some people prefer a gentle hike, you may find it exhilarating to fly down the hills on wheels instead!

Bungee

Bungee jumping

Definitely one of the thrill seekers, but bungee jumping is something that sits on many people’s bucket lists of outdoor adventures. Why put it off? You can check out locations and book a jump with the UK Bungee Club.

Surfing

If you’ve always wanted to master surfing, perhaps this summer is the time to do it! You don’t even need to head abroad to find a good beach to surf, there are plenty of good spots to surf right here in the UK! The Surfing Waves website has details on their website here.

Horse riding

Nothing quite beats the feeling of cantering through the countryside on horseback. Horse riding is an extremely enjoyable and therapeutic activity for people of all ages and abilities, so why not find a riding school near you and go for a trek this summer?

Wild swimming

Swimming in a swimming pool is great exercise, but while the weather is warmer there’s nothing quite like the thrill of swimming outdoors in nature! Make the most of the British lakes, rivers, and beaches this summer, and find the best wild swimming spots here.

Fishing

Fishing is one of the world’s favourite pastimes, so if you haven’t tried your hand at it yet, why not make a fishing trip part of your plan this summer? We have several parks that are equipped for fishing here at Pure Leisure, and you can find out more on our website here.

We hope this post has given you some inspiration to go on more adventures in the warmer months and make this summer one to remember!
