15 Reasons To Holiday In The UK In 2017 Instead Of Going Abroad
20 January 2017
Jetting off on holiday to foreign lands will always hold that sense of adventure, and we do get the appeal that going abroad holds.
But here at Pure Leisure, we believe that you can have an amazing holiday in the UK, and we’re going to take a look at 15 reasons why you might wish to consider a staycation this year.
It’s cheaper
The most obvious reason to forgo your usual holiday abroad is that the costs are continuing to rise.
According to the Guardian, with the value of the pound plummeting following the UK’s decision to leave the European Union , a holiday to a Eurozone country will now cost a family of four £245 more than it would have before the referendum.
Beautiful beaches
One of the biggest reasons people like to get out of the country is to relax on a nice sunny beach somewhere.
However, the UK is home to some spectacular beaches of its own, particularly in Cornwall and the rest of the South West.

History
It’s nice to get a bit of a flavour for an area’s history when you visit, but how much have you actually tapped in the UK’s rich history?
For such a small set of islands, the UK has witnessed the rise and fall of many different kingdoms and cultures, all of which have left their mark.
Whether it be Stonehenge, Westminster Abbey, the Roman Baths or Edinburgh Castle, the UK is chock-full of history.
Delicious food and drink
Another aspect of the UK which we often take for granted is out excellent heritage for food and drink.
The UK is a foodie heaven, with classic dishes such as fish and chips, Sunday roasts and hearty pies.
We’re also proud to be the home of some fantastic restaurants, offering everything from gourmet dining to classic pub grub.

Less fuss
One thing which we definitely don’t look forward to when going on holiday is sorting out all the passports and documents for the family, or sorting out foreign currency (especially with the weak value of the pound).
Travelling in the UK takes all of the stress out of the equation and leaves you to worry about enjoying yourself!
You can take your pets
For pet lovers, one of the biggest downsides to holidaying is having to leave your four-legged friends at home.
Here in the UK, this doesn’t have to be an issue, as many places, including our parks here at Pure Leisure, actively encourage you to bring them along.
It also saves you the cost of hiring a dog-sitter or putting them in kennels.
No luggage allowance
Those strict baggage allowances on flights are the bane of our lives when travelling abroad, and that’s before you consider the extortionate fees if you go over them!
But when it comes to holidaying in the UK, all you have to worry about it whether is how you’re going to cram it into the car!
Freedom to use your own transport
Holidaying in your own vehicle gives you so much more freedom than you would usually get on holiday, meaning you’re not relying on trains, taxis and buses, and allowing you to go off the beaten track and really explore as much as you want, at your own pace.
Great events
There’s always something going on somewhere in the UK, with all manner of festivals and events taking place up and down the country, all year around.
Whether it be the big events such as Glastonbury Festival or the Fringe in Edinburgh, or some of the quirkier local ones such as Cheese Rolling at Coopers Hill or the Whitby Folk Festival.
Ideal for a short break
What’s great about holidaying in the UK is that you don’t have to commit to a long holiday, and can easily just go away for a weekend, or perhaps three or four nights.
The freedom to be able to just go away on a whim with little to no planning is very liberating, and allows you to be a bit more spontaneous.
Amazing walks
For such a small country, the UK is home to some incredible scenery, with national parks such as Snowdonia, the Peak District and Lake District all perfect for a walking holiday.

There’s plenty of adventure too
But don’t go thinking that the UK is all about quiet walks in the country and visit to museums.
Did you know that you can scuba dive off the coast, ski in the mountains and even skydive, right here in the UK?
Quirky pubs
One of the most unique things about the UK is our excellent pub culture, and we’re not just talking your standard Dog and Duck fare.
The UK is home to everything from traditional pubs to quirky hipster hangouts, and many of them are sitting right under our noses!
You can even stay at many of them, so check out this list of some of the greatest pubs in the UK with rooms.
Impact on the environment
It’s not something we always take into account, but air travel is by far one of the biggest contributors to climate change.
Getting everyone in the car and holidaying locally will massively cut down on your carbon footprint and make you feel that little bit better about yourself!
The weather might not be as bad as you think!
Finally, while the main reason many people choose to avoid the UK is that they think it’s going to be cold and dreary, this isn’t always the case!
Especially in the South, temperatures can sometimes rise above 30 degrees, making you feel less Cornwall and more Costa del Sol!
