3 Great Reasons To Visit The Lake District This Winter

13 January 2020

As one of the most picturesque places in the UK, it’s very easy to see why so many people flock to the Lake District during the hot summer months – but what about winter?

We know that the Lakes is a great place to visit all year round, and you’re definitely missing out on the magic of seeing this incredible landscape transform into a winter wonderland if you don’t visit during the colder seasons.

There are plenty of reasons you should take a wintry Lake District trip – here are just a few reasons why you should start planning your winter break to the Lakes now.

Postcard-Perfect Views

We all know just how beautiful the Lake District is in summer, but during winter, the whole landscape transforms into a picture of winter perfection.

Photographers are encouraged to take a trip to catch incredible shots of the snow settling on the mountains and fells, the lakes starting to freeze and the countryside looking beautifully crisp as the morning frost (or snow!) settles on the grass.

The landscape is striking enough, but once winter descends, the beauty of this area really comes into its own.

Wintry Walks

The thought of heading up a mountain during winter isn’t for the faint of heart, but for those who love getting out and about in all weathers – or those who want to explore the Lakes during a less-busy time of year, many walks are well worth embarking upon while the area is covered in snow.

Extra care should be taken on early morning walks where the ice and frost won’t have had time to thaw yet, but we guarantee that taking it slow and steady will grant you some unmissable winter views overt the valleys and fells that make it all worthwhile.

Be sure to stay safe when hiking in the winter, and take extra care. There are some safety tips to follow on the Lake District National Park website here.

If fell walking isn’t your thing, there are plenty of woodlands and lakeshores for you to explore, turned into glistening winter wonderlands!

Cosy Pubs

There’s nothing better on a cold, wintery day than enjoying a well-earned drink and some fresh, hot food in a cosy pub. Luckily in the Lake District, there are plenty of pubs to choose from, all comfortable and cosy and ready to help warm you up after a long day of exploring.

If you’re lucky, you may even get to huddle around a real log fire while you enjoy your favourite tipple! With plenty of places offering delicious, hot and freshly prepared meals, there’s no reason not to start enjoying the winter season in the Lakes!
