Can a Holiday Lodge Be Your Forever Home?
30 July 2024
Are you ready to join the Brits already choosing to live permanently in a holiday lodge? If so, it’s time to consider the ins and outs of turning your holiday lodge into your forever home.
When you own with Pure Leisure, the answer is yes – you can live permanently in selected holiday lodges. This gives you the opportunity to wake up every morning in the stunning Lake District, Lancashire countryside, Norfolk borders and more.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through legal and cost considerations and introduce the Pure Leisure lifestyle and community, helping you reach a answer to the question many Brits are asking: “Can you live permanently in a lodge?”.
What is a holiday lodge?
A Pure Leisure holiday lodge is a luxurious cabin situated in one of our many UK-based leisure parks – complete with spacious living areas, large bathrooms, fully kitted kitchens and amenities. Holiday lodges can also be fitted with optional extended decking and lakeside views in some locations.
Perfect for any time of year, our lodges are available to live in during any season – spring, summer, autumn and winter. Expect year-round service in parks with cafés and restaurants, popular walking routes and maintained fishing spots.
All our lodges are in rural/semi-rural settings, close to nature and perfect for couples, retirees and families alike.
Legal considerations
It is perfectly legal to live in a holiday lodge permanently as long as your chosen park allows 12-month stays and you obtain a residential licence for your lodge. Pure Leisure welcomes year-round stays, so inquire with us if you wish to stay in your lodge year-round during consultation.
What’s more, holiday lodges are exempt from stamp duty – meaning you can use your holiday lodge as a permanent second home without the extra taxation cost associated with owning two residential homes.
Residential holiday parks
Residential holiday parks offer a range of amenities and leisure facilities, depending on the park and location.
Pure Leisure holiday parks have facilities such as maintained fishing spots, cafés, restaurants, nature reserves and even a golfing country club at our Tydd St Giles park. To find the park with facilities that best suit you, check out our parks page.
All our residential holiday parks are situated near local attractions and hot spots, including nearby market towns and cities, as well as beautiful nature and walking routes available straight from your doorstep.
Lifestyle and community
Many make the switch to a holiday lodge lifestyle, but there are plenty of reasons why. Pure Leisure holiday lodges offer great access to nature, giving owners the opportunity to wake up surrounded by the beautiful UK countryside year round.
However, they’re never so secluded that you won’t have access to the amenities you need. If you’re looking for a combination of rural and town lifestyles, our holiday lodges are a fantastic choice.
Not only are holiday lodges peaceful, but they are also incredibly social. Many of our residents love being part of a close-knit holiday lodge community, often staying up to the wee hours in an on-site pub, going on group walks or swimming and golfing together.
Cost considerations
When choosing to live in a holiday lodge, it’s important to closely consider your budget and expected costs.
Outside the initial purchase cost, we will only charge annual site fees. Maintenance costs will not be charged for the upkeep of your lodge.
The remaining bills you can expect to pay are similar to any abode: gas, electric, water and food costs.
It is also strongly advised that you purchase home insurance for your lodge to keep it safe and maintained. Our team are happy to suggest a reputable insurance company for this.
Pros and cons
Living permanently in a holiday home offers all the fun and opportunity of holidaying for a season, but available all year round. You will be close to nearby leisure facilities, walking routes and amenities without having to travel far.
However, whether this option is entirely for you is down to personal preference. One thing to consider is personalisation. Our lodges cannot be painted and permanent fixtures within the lodges cannot be removed – but you’re more than welcome to bring in new furniture and put your own stamp on the interior!
While our lodges are very spacious, you may also find that you require extra space for permanent residency, especially if you have a young family. Thankfully, we have larger lodges available, so please feel free to come and have a look yourselves.
