Enjoy Spring Half Term At Billing Aquadrome

6 January 2016

January is often a quiet month as we try to cling onto our New Year’s resolutions and hibernate through the remainder of winter. However, when it gets to late January there’s light at the end of the tunnel in the form of the first half term holiday of the year.

There’s a lot to love about spring time. The temperature begins to rise, invariably the skies are clear blue, the air is crisp and flowers begin to bloom into life and become full of colour.

Spending your holiday at Billing Aquadrome and the surrounding Northamptonshire area means there’s always something exciting to get up to.

This year spring half term falls between 13th – 21st February.

To give you a head start, here are a few spring half term activity ideas that will please all the family:

Enjoy a Family Walk

Family Walk

With 235 acres for you all to explore, a family walk is an obvious activity.

All you need to do is take a short stroll before you’re on the towpath. Once you’re there, it’s up to you. Either head east towards Wellingborough and Castle Ashby, a thriving 10,000-acre estate just to the south. Or stroll into Northampton to the west where there’s plenty of things to help entertain the family, including cafes, bars, shops and a multiplex cinema.

Or if you like, put on your hiking boots and just go with the flow!

Check Out One of the Local Museums

If the weather takes a turn for the worse, you can always take the family indoors and check out one of the fascinating museums nearby. Within a few miles there are plenty of options to quench your thirst for an interesting fact or two. Just take a look at the Northampton Borough Council website to see what’s on. A popular attraction is the Northampton Museum & Art Gallery which has regular exhibitions to suit all tastes.

For something really exciting, check out the Irchester Narrow Gauge Railway Museum. It sits within Irchester Country Park and is home to a collection of working steam and diesel locomotives that run along 300 yards of track remaining from the original Ironstone Railway.

You’ll be able to ride on fully-working trains and spend the day immersed in local history. Note that the museum is only open on Sundays.

West Lodge Rural Centre

Ducklings

Kids love cute animals. In fact, it seems we all do these days. However, instead of searching on YouTube for ‘cute animal videos’, why not go and see the cute little lambs and ducks for yourself at the West Lodge Rural Centre?

Get the children enthusiastic about all kinds of animal and embrace the beautiful local countryside. All as you experience rural life within 540 acres of farmland and forestry. There’s something for everyone including pony rides, working machinery, adventure playgrounds and lots of other activities happening throughout the year.

West Lodge Rural Centre is 30 minutes away by car, just outside the village of Desborough; all you need to do is follow the brown tourist signposts!
