Summer has finally arrived, and we’ve all had the chance to enjoy some lovely weather over the past few weeks. The sunshine has meant there’s no need to head abroad if you want to hit the beach, and with more warm weather predicted for the rest of the summer, there has never been a better time to plan a staycation.

But besides the obvious beach resort choices, you may be struggling for ideas when it comes to places to explore. If this sounds like you, then you needn’t worry. We’ve pulled together a little roundup of some of our favourite parts of the UK to give you a little bit of inspiration for summer staycation ideas!

Enjoy The Lake District

The Lake District is well worth visiting all year round, and it has a lot to offer towards the end of the summertime. Bring the whole family along and enjoy a child-friendly walk or two, or see how many things from our Summer Bucket List you can tick off!

Visit The Nene Valley

The Nene Valley is a very accessible destination, being only one hour from London, Birmingham, Oxford and Cambridge. This beautiful part of Northamptonshire covers an area three times the size of the Great Fens. The peaceful countryside location features wildflower meadows, marshes and wetlands, woodlands and grasslands which makes it an important area for wildlife.

The Nene Valley Railway is a huge hit with little ones as well as train enthusiasts, and you can ride a heritage steam or diesel train while you explore the area in style.

The Nene Valley is also home to Billing Aquadrome, which is the perfect place to enjoy a spot of fishing or make use of our many attractions, including a miniature railway, go-kart track, miniature golf, and children’s play area.

Explore the Norfolk Broads

The Norfolk Broads feature over 125 miles of lock-free waterways surrounded by beautiful countryside, and are the perfect place to enjoy a tranquil boat ride. There are actually more miles of waterways than both Venice and Amsterdam, as well as plenty of cycleways and walking paths.

These man-made lakes and waterways are the result of medieval peat digging. They are now home to plenty of spectacular wildlife including otters, Kingfishers, and the rare Swallowtail butterflies.

Our Tydd St Giles Golf and Country Club is the perfect base for exploring Norfolk and all that it has to offer, and we have plenty to keep you entertained onsite during your stay. From the golf course to the pool and the fishing facilities, there’s lots of choice when it comes to things to do.

A city break

No matter what time of year it is, you can enjoy a city break whatever the weather. This makes them the perfect getaway later in the summer when you can’t be quite sure whether to expect rain or shine.

While you can’t truly predict the weather, there is this handy Staycation Index that can help you choose where to explore based on things like the average rainfall, the average price of a pint, and the number of family-friendly attractions there are nearby amongst other factors.

Lancaster is listed in it as one of the top 10 safest cities in the UK for a city break, and it is only a short drive from both our South Lakeland and Crook O’Lune parks! There is plenty to do around this vibrant city, with a great mix of history, culture, and charm.
