The Benefits of a UK Holiday Home

18 December 2015

Holidaying in the UK can eliminate many of the common annoyances we’ve all experienced whilst holidaying abroad.

Lost luggage, delayed flights, expensive exchange rates, gambling on unseen accommodation. Sound familiar? These aren’t necessarily the traits of a holiday. In fact, nearly everything which makes what is supposed to be a stress-relieving break less relaxing is the result of flying abroad. Even if a ‘staycation’ is an unfamiliar word, or if you can only imagine a holiday via plane, you might be surprised to find that there’s another option!

It’s not only time and money that get spent going abroad, but also your energy. Staying in the UK means you won’t have to learn a new language, get up at a ridiculous hour for a flight, cope with jet-lag, or remember passports and plane tickets.

Overseas Holiday Ownership Is Dropping

Our love for holiday homes abroad seems to be dwindling. Recent figures show that overseas holiday home ownership has dropped by 80% in the last seven years. Meanwhile, in the UK, nearly 200,000 Brits now own a static holiday home in the UK, spending on average £55,000.

In fact, our desire to escape the UK seems to be dwindling as a country too, instead choosing to check out what’s right on our doorstep. Between 2008 and 2014, 15% less of us Brits went abroad, deciding to relax in the UK instead.

The Truth About the Weather

Despite us Brits enjoying a moan about the weather, it’s not all that bad. During peak holiday times, parts of the UK are in fact hotter than parts of Europe on average. During August, the UK is several degrees warmer than popular holiday spots like Oslo and Amsterdam, and given the UK’s more frequent heat-waves, it’s a great time to invest in a home-away-from-home.
