The Best Family Day Trips Within An Hour Of Tydd St Giles
12 September 2018
Our Tydd St Giles holiday park is located in a wonderful part of the country where there is a great deal to see and do. Not only can you enjoy spending time at the park itself during your stay, with our fantastic park facilities, golf course, and scenery offering something for everybody, but there are plenty of great day trips nearby too!
We thought we’d gather together a few of our favourites that are close enough to get to for the day during your stay.
Fens Falconry
Wisbech St Mary
Distance from Tydd St Giles: 8.8 miles/15 min
Located just a few minutes down the road from Tydd St Giles, Fens Falconry is a bird of prey centre which offers experience days that are great for anybody wanting to learn more about these amazing birds and what goes into taking care of them.
The staff have a real passion for what they do, and the day will be filled with flying demonstrations, information about conservation, and handling the birds. Suitable for children from age 12 and up!
Oxburgh Hall
King’s Lynn
Distance from Tydd St Giles: 30.6 miles/47 min
Oxburgh Hall is a country house that is taken care of by the National Trust. It was built in 1482, and although it looks a little bit like a castle, it was, in fact, a family home, albeit a rather grand family home, as it has a moat and a fortified gatehouse.
There is plenty to do during a visit to Oxburgh Hall, with a tea room and shop, and the opportunity to explore not only the hall itself but also the gardens and the estate.
Take in the history of the Hall and learn about its secrets, which include seven secret doors, a Priest’s Hole and even some needlework by Mary, Queen of Scots.
Head for a walk through the ground and gardens, you can even bring your dog! Or check out some of the events that are held at the Hall regularly.
RSPB Frampton Marsh
Frampton
Distance from Tydd St Giles: 24.1 miles/38 min
Frampton Marsh is a great place to view the birdlife of The wash, which is one of Europe’s best places for wildlife. You’ll find avocets, redshanks, skylarks and whimbrels in the summertime, and thousands of ducks during the winter.
It’s a great place for families to visit, and besides viewing the birds through the telescopes and binoculars on site, there are lots of activities for children such as events and treasure trails.
Go Ape Thetford
Thetford
Distance from Tydd St Giles: 40 miles/1 hour 7 min
Okay, so this one will technically take you a little over an hour to reach from our Tydd St Giles park. But for an extra 10-15 minutes travel time, you can have an adventurous day out for all the family to enjoy.
Thetford is actually where the first Go Ape adventure opened, and the treetop platforms, ropes, obstacles and zip wires have been providing fun for all the family since 2002. Step outside of your comfort zone and take to the trees, or enjoy the forest Segway experience!
We hope this has given you a few ideas for things to do if you’re planning on coming to visit us soon. If you haven’t finalised your plans yet, why not get in touch with a member of our team who will be able to help you with your booking.
