Grange over sands
Grange-over-Sands is a charming, tranquil Victorian/Edwardian seaside town in Cumbria, England, on the southern edge of the Lake District, known for its mild microclimate, elegant architecture, ornamental gardens, and a long promenade overlooking Morecambe Bay with stunning views of tidal sands and rivers.
Grange-over-Sands’ iconic cast-iron bandstand, a Grade II listed ornamental structure with a zinc pagoda roof, is a central feature of Park Road Gardens, originally built by benefactor Harold Porritt around 1904 and later moved from the Promenade due to soot. It hosts a popular summer season of brass band concerts, a cherished tradition reflecting the town’s Victorian seaside elegance, offering free entertainment and refreshments, and remains a beloved spot for locals and visitors.
