A Lake District Christmas Shopping Guide

12 December 2018

When it comes to Christmas shopping, there are many different shopping styles. From super organised shopping throughout the year, to the last minute Christmas Eve whirlwind panic buying, and everything in between.

One thing that I think we can all agree on, however, is that Christmas shopping is way more fun when you can do it somewhere beautiful. The Lake District has a lot to offer Christmas shoppers, with some great shopping destinations as well as Christmas markets and events!

With that in mind, we thought we’d do a little guide to the best spots to head to this winter to grab some gifts for your loved ones.

Windermere

Windermere Christmas Celebration – Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th December 2018

Every winter, Windermere lays on a family-friendly Christmas event for everybody to enjoy and this year is no exception.

If you love Christmas markets, then this is the event for you! With stalls lining the streets, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to pick up a few gifts for your loved ones, or even for yourself!

Lowther Castle and Gardens

Lowther Castle and Gardens is a great family day out at any time of the year, but in the run-up to Christmas they put on some fantastic Christmas events that you won’t want to miss.

Here’s a brief rundown of what they’ve got coming up this Christmas:

A Visit To Father Christmas – Saturdays & Sundays through December 2018

Contemporary Wreath-making Workshop – Saturday 1st December 2018

Traditional Wreath-making Workshop – Tuesday 4th December 2018

Christmas Wreath Bird-feeder Children’s Workshop – Sunday 16th December 2018

Crafty Christmas Decorations Children’s Workshop – Sunday 16th December 2018

Holker Hall and Gardens

At Holker Hall, they’re holding various Christmas celebrations throughout December, including crafts, music, and food!

Check out their Holker Celebrates Christmas page for full details on what’s on when.

Hawkshead

Hawkshead Christmas Fair – Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd December 2018

A Christmas Fair takes over the ancient streets of Hawkshead village every year. It involves both indoor and outdoor markets with over 50 stalls where you can buy all the crafts, food, and gifts you could dream of.

There’s a Santa’s Grotto for the children and a mini beer festival for the grown-ups, which makes for the perfect weekend.

Keswick

Keswick Victorian Fayre – Sunday 2nd December 2018

There’s more period fun for the family with the Keswick Christmas Fayre. If homemade gifts are your jam, you’ll find plenty of them on the stalls here. And if you buy something you’ll be supporting the charities that run the stalls too!

This market is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some Christmas cheer but also raise some money for good causes!

Carlisle

Carlisle Christmas Market – Wednesday 30th November – Sunday 4th December 2018

Carlisle holds a five day Christmas Market, with an open-air market in the pedestrianised part of the city with stalls for everything from produce to crafts and cakes.

There’s also a farmer’s market taking place on the 2nd of December and various events over the festive period. As well as late night shopping every Thursday between 17th November and 2nd December.

We hope this has given you some inspiration when it comes to doing your Christmas shopping this year. As there are so many great opportunities to enjoy a great day out while also picking up some gifts this year!
